Omar Hasan Al Zahid, 31, pleaded guilty last month to criminal harassment against his 30-year-old lover last year in front of Justice Miriam Bloomenfeld at the Ontario Court of Justice in Scarborough.
The woman met Al Zahid on Valentine’s Day 2018 through the victim’s previous landlord, said Crown attorney Alexandra Rowell, in reading an agreed statement of fact.
“The two became involved in an intimate relationship. Subsequently, the victim was evicted from her residence and Al Zahid became her landlord,” said Rowell.
He continued to harass the woman by sending text messages on several occasions as he tried to persuade her to terminate her pregnancy.
Al Zahid met with the victim in person in the lobby of her building to convince her to have an abortion. He produced a thumb drive with “the video recordings of the victim performing sexual acts and similar explicit photos.”
During this time, the victim “was insistent in telling the accused to leave her alone and that she would not be persuaded into having an abortion,” said Rowell. The victim reported the incident to police at 41 Division, court heard.
